The Memorial Day weekend is quickly approaching. YAY! We all deserve a break. And some pizza.

Just a few updates for this month.

1) I've made Ajara an admin. If you don't know, she's one of the most prolific authors on Shell Shock. Now how's that for a turtle fan! She's been graciously helping me defeat the evil spammers that keep popping up. It's much appreciated!

2) I've been getting a lot of random emails from members who have a) forgotten their username, b) forgotten their password, or c) want to edit their profile because they put personal information in it.

a) If you can't remember your username, you can always search for your email, if it is indeed the same email you registered with. If it doesn't show up that way, I'm sorry to say that the only other way of finding your username is to go through every name in the member list and hope that one of them looks like they could be you. I cannot help if you if do not know your username. If you want, create a new account. I don't care if the old account isn't in use, just as long as it isn't spam.

b) If you forgot your password, you can have a new one sent to the email address you registered with. If you changed your email address (remember, you can edit your profile if you have a change of information), and cannot retrieve your password, THEN I can help. Send me an email with your username (VERY IMPORTANT), and the password of your desire, and I can manually change it so you'll be able to log-in. It's in your best interest to write this information down somewhere. I usually open a Notepad file up, and keep a list of all of the online sites I join with the passwords/usernames included. Save it to your document folder. Or write it down. Your brain will only let you down and make you cry.

c) Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, use your real last name in your profile. I know it asks for a real name, but a first name is all that is needed. You don’t even have to use your first name. Make one up, use a penname or internet name. Any website over time gets information picked up from search engines like Yahoo! or Google, and if you do a search for your name, it might just show up on those search engines. I have no control over this. If you edit your profile, it will probably takes months for the listing of your name to disappear from the search engines. If you have your last name in your profile, I urge you to remove it. Most likely nothing will come of it. If I search for my name on any search engine, something’s bound to pop up. Still, better safe than sorry, right?

Spammers

Hi all. Just letting you know I'm still lurking around this joint. I'm going to try to work on a new skin within the coming weeks. I also deleted about 100 spam members, so I think we're up-to-date on that.

If you've read any other stories that you think deserve to be featured, leave a comment, and they'll be considered for next month.

Hey, folks. Just checking in with another quick update. I wanted to bring a couple of things to your attention.

1) As soon as you register to become a member, you're able to upload/post your fanfic. You don't have to get permission from me, or email me the entire story so I can approve it. If you're a member, it's approved. But just to be a step above ff.net, please, please, spell-check your story first. That also includes making sure titles and certain words are capitalized, and proper punctuation. If you're unsure of something, find a beta-reader to look your story over for you. It just makes the overall reading experience better if your reader isn't constantly seeing spelling mistakes and other grammatical errors. I'm by no means perfect when it comes to grammar/spelling (so don't think you have to be Shakespeare), but I do use Microsoft Word, or LiveJournal spell check, for anything I write and decide to post.

I betcha you can find a really nice beta-reader at tmnt_fanfic on livejournal.

2) I know ff.net has a limited policy when it comes to NC-17 rated fanfic. Shell Shock allows any kind of rating, NC-17 included (please be 18 years of age of older to submit and read these stories). There are warnings and genres galore listed for you to tag your story with when you’re adding the title/summary information. So, if you’re writing turtle-cest, there’s an incest option. If your story is ultra violent/gorey/sweary, there are tags for that. If there’s graphic sex involved, tag it, baby.

And if you come here as a regular, and are offended by what you’re reading, well, it’s also a good idea to check the tags and warnings before you even decide to read a fic. Obviously, if you’re not into turtle-cest, there’s going to be some stuff involved that will turn your hair gray.

3) Spread the word about this place. I know y’all know some peeps that write turtle fanfic. We have 436 members, but only 85 stories. Let’s try to make this archive huge! C’mon, do it for Leo, Mike, Don, and Raph! They deserve it. There are a bazillion Twilight fanfics floating around out there in cyber-space, and let’s face it, being a mean, green reptile is better than being a sparkly vampire any day of the week.

4) If you see a canon TMNT character not listed under the character selection area, drop me a line and I can add it in. No problemo.

I think that’s it for now. I hope that cleared some stuff up. My thanks to all of the kickass authors who have contributed stories thus far. And a big thank you to the members who've joined to read and review the fanfiction.

New Skin

Ahoy-hoy. Finally, a new skin. It's nothing much, but it's about time I do something.

Recently I've been getting a lot of emails concerning TMNT crossover fic. To clarify, it's totally allowed. There is a crossover genre listed, so if you feel like introducing our green heroes to Biker Mice From Mars, X-men, Toxic Crusaders, Batman, Jesus, etc.. please feel free to. Make sure you use the crossover genre listing, and in the summary, please indicate the crossover type. Any other ?'s, please give me a shout.

Just a quick update folks, so you know that I'm alive and kickin'. The archive is growing slowly, but steadily. We still don't have too many stories, but the few that we do have are all well-written and full of the turtle spirit. Please support your fellow members by reading and reviewing stories!

I know that there is a lot of tmnt fanfic floating around out there on the net, so if you know a friend, or even a friend of a friend, who writes in this fandom, please pass the word along and help this archive grow.
